Shortened versions of the Gudjonsson Suggestibility Scale meet the standards

چکیده
Purpose. The Gudjonsson Suggestibility Scale (GSS; Gudjonsson, 1984, 1997) is a well-established forensic tool for measuring interrogative suggestibility. However, one restriction of this tool is that it requires an extensive testing procedure. The present study examined whether shorter versions of the GSS yield similar results as the original GSS procedure. Methods. One group (N 1⁄4 20) was given a shortened version of the GSS that consisted of an immediate recall test and the specific questions. GSS scores in this group were compared with those in a group (N 1⁄4 20) that had the standard procedure which includes a retention interval and immediate and delayed recall tests. A third group (N 1⁄4 20) was administered a shortened procedure in which the 20 GSS questions immediately followed the GSS story. In the fourth group (N 1⁄4 20), participants were given the retention interval, but no recall tests were administered.

Types of suggestibility: Relationships among compliance, indirect, and direct suggestibility.
It is commonly believed that direct suggestibility, referring to overt influence, and indirect suggestibility, in which the intention to influence is hidden, correlate poorly. This study demonstrates that they are substantially related, provided that they tap similar areas of influence. Test results from 103 students, 55 women and 48 men, were entered into regression analyses. Indirect suggesti...
متن کاملThe effect of cognitive load on faking interrogative suggestibility on the Gudjonsson Suggestibility Scale
In the light of recent studies into the impact of cognitive load on detecting deception, the impact of cognitive load on faking on the Gudjonsson Suggestibility Scale (GSS) was investigated. Eighty undergraduate students participated in the study, and were randomly assigned to one of four conditions resulting from a combination of the factors: instruction type (genuine or instructed faking, see...
متن کاملAssessing Interrogative Suggestibility, an adaptation of Gudjonsson Suggestibility Scale (GSS): Gender Difference in witnessing an event
Interrogative suggestibility refers to the tendency of individuals to accept suggestive information in an interrogative context. Gudjonsson and Clark (1986) have developed a theoretical model of suggestibility, and contend that suggestibility is mediated by an individual's cognitive abilities, mental state and personality characteristics. In particular, they emphasize the role of coping strateg...

In study 1 (n = 51, M age = 21.4 years, SD = 5.7), the validity of the Portuguese adaptation of the Gudjonsson Suggestibility Scales (Pires, 2011) was shown through the comparison of means of the original (Gudjonsson, 1997) and the translated scales and the analysis of the correlations between the GSS1 and GSS2 scores. The relationships between interrogative suggestibility and the big five were...
متن کاملIndividual Differences in the Formation of False Memories: Is Suggestibility a Predictive Factor?
Individual differences in the formation of false memories using suggestibility as a predictive factor were investigated. Undergraduate males and females were administered two false memory paradigms: the DeeseRoedinger-McDermott (DRM) (1995) word recognition task and the Kassin & Kiechel (KK) ALT key task (1996). Subsequently, participants were administered the Gudjonsson Suggestibility Scale (G...
